Building Information Modelling (BIM)

Utilising the latest technology to enhance the design process

Silcock Leedham has long realised the revolutionary potential of building information modelling (BIM) in its industry. Our engineers and specialists use an innovative BIM approach to enhance the design process. Our approach enables the use of three-dimensional, real-time, dynamic-building modelling software to increase productivity in building design and construction.

We use Revit and Navisworks to communicate with other design and construction team members to form a fully integrated BIM. We are skilled at setting up easy-to-transfer IFC files between suppliers and designers. We have developed a standard set of COBie schedules for suppliers and manufacturers to populate in the BIM environment. We are integrating Stabicad into our workstreams to enable MEP design directly into integrated 3D Revit models.

Internal R&D

We are committed to investing in BIM, as demonstrated by our investment in Trimble Stabicad, which enables our engineering design to be developed directly in the 3D Revit environment to make it truly end-to-end. Our designers and engineers are natural innovators with the use of both BIM and 3D integration. Several are active members and contributors to multiple BIM forums, including thinkBIM, in which Jason Richards sits on the steering group as part of the Leeds Beckett University Knowledge Exchange.

We have completed projects following the BS EN ISO 19650 standards and have experience in assembling a model from inception, including all protocols to finalisation and COBie schedule linking and embedding. BIM is a practical way forward for our industry, and we are working towards a fully collaborative design team solution using developing tools and platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud. Our teams have worked beyond the design phase of projects for over 20 years. As such, our 3D knowledge and capabilities incorporate fully coordinated construction information. We are one of the few pure play MEP consultants that are capable and comfortable delivering to RIBA Stage 5 for contractors.
